Pixii chosen by Elvia to supply grid batteries to improve services in the distribution grid
Elvia, Norways largest Distribution System Operator (DSO), has chosen Pixii as the supplier of 2 large batteries which will be used in a pilot project
DSO's operating in rural areas with long lines, often face issues with providing suficcient quality on their service. With the emergence of electric vehicles and other power hungry appliances, this problem has escalated. Traditionally, the only way to fix this is through new lines or cables. This can be very costly and time consuming.
Grid batteries or grid tied battery based energy storage solutions, is a new tool to overcome these quality issues. By placing such batteries close to the consumer, the DSO can significantly improve the quality locally as well as assisting with upstream capacity issues on lines or in transformer stations. The installation of such batteries is quick, and they can also be moved to a different location if the demand change.
Elvia is running this pilot project, with Enova as a financial contributor, to test and document the use of "distributed grid batteries". Pixii is excited to be a part of this project and look forward to gain experience and further explore how these batteries can be utilized to its full.

Research and development is at the core of our business idea – together with our clients we are deploying solutions that reduce power cost without reducing power consumption.
Energy storage for power quality support and decongestion of distribution networks
Distributed energy storage solutions can help DSO's in meeting challenges due to increasing power peak demands and intermittent power production.
Using energy storage to generate revenue on lazy assets in telecom networks
Telecom networks possess a significant energy storage capacity. This can be utilized for "ancillary services" without having any impact on the reliability for the telecom network.
Charging of electrical vehicles
Energy storage interacting with chargers for electrical vehicles
Installing EV chargers can result in costly upstream capacity increase requirements and demand charges.
