EV CHARGING
Supercharging progress – TSG partners with Pixii for scalable EV charging solutions

The Netherlands has been so successful at rolling out EV charging infrastructure that only low-capacity grid connections remain. To achieve full coverage and expand fast charging capabilities, TSG, the European leader in technical services for responsible mobility solutions and beyond, turned to Pixii’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology, enabling high-power EV charging where grid capacity is limited.

The challenge

The Netherlands, a leader in EV adoption, has seen high-capacity grid connections quickly taken up by charging infrastructure. This left only low-capacity spots available, creating a challenge for TSG to pursue its strategy of providing its customers with continued support in their transition towards responsible mobility. TSG had to develop expertise in installing high-power EV chargers, despite being limited by the available grid capacity. In this case, while installing a 150 kW Alpitronic HYC150 charger, the grid could only provide 40 kVA-far too little to power the charger.

With the grid already overloaded and no immediate upgrades possible, TSG needed a solution that could deliver the required power in a space-efficient and innovative way. The system also needed to be fully integrated, scalable, reliable, easy to install and maintain, and safe for electricians.

The solution

TSG partnered with Pixii to install three Pixii PowerShaper cabinets, delivering the 150 kW needed to power the EV charger. This setup not only filled the power gap but also ensured the system could be easily scaled up as demand increased.

The system featured cloud access with a dashboard for real-time monitoring and control, allowing TSG to offer its customers the ability to oversee performance seamlessly. Integration with TSG Protect’s in-house energy management system was completed smoothly, showcasing the system’s compatibility and high cybersecurity standards.

“Our PowerShaper solution ensures TSG can meet their high-capacity charging needs while providing a pathway to future energy market participation.

The Benefits

The key benefit of the Pixii solution is its ability to boost grid capacity, ensuring that the Alpitronic charger can operate at full power even with limited grid availability. This provides a reliable and efficient charging solution, avoiding the need for costly and time-consuming grid upgrades.

In addition to solving the immediate grid limitation, the Pixii system’s modular design allows for easy scalability. As demand for EV charging grows, TSG can effortlessly expand the system by adding more capacity, making it a truly future-proof solution. The system’s standardized components ensure quick availability and minimize downtime, while hot-swappable parts enhance reliability and simplify maintenance. Installation is straightforward, and the system’s 48-volt power architecture ensures TSG’s electricians can safely work on it.

With these features, the Pixii system not only addresses today’s grid constraints but also provides a flexible platform for future expansion, making it a robust and scalable solution for the evolving EV charging market.

“Our partnership with Pixii empowers TSG to tackle grid challenges across Europe, supporting the expansion of EV charging infrastructure and reinforcing our commitment to provide our customers with fully integrated solutions for responsible mobility.
